History

The field of geology was established in the Darolmoalemin`s College along with other fields of science from 1307 and was established with the field of biology as natural sciences in the Faculty of Basic Sciences in 1313. In 1338, the department of geology became independent and in 2005, following the change in the structure of the university of Tehran, the school of geology was reorganized into a science campus.

The faculty is currently accepting undergraduate, master of science and Ph.D. students. The master`s degree includes Petrology, Sedimentology and Sedimentary petrology, Stratigraphy, Petroleum geology, Economic geology and engineering geology.

Geology studies and recognizes the phenomena of the earth and the origin of the history and structure of the earth, its constituents, natural resources (metallic, non-metallic, energy, water and underground resources) and changes that occur during time is reconstructed. Geological studies are important in the fields of oil exploration, mining, dam construction, road construction, bridge construction, construction projects, raw materials required by industry and access to natural resources.

The graduates of this group are able to work in oil, gas and mining exploration, prepare and interpret geological and mineral maps, they have the necessary efficiency to cooperate with exploration groups and exploitation of groundwater resources and can cooperate in field operations and geotechnical projects.

Graduates of this field usually work in the ministries of oil, industries and mines, energy, jihad-e-Keshavarzi and their affiliated organizations. Many environmental problems and sustainable development planning are also studied with the help of geologists.
